Cevapcici (Croatian or Serbian Sausage)

This would have to be my favourite BBQ recipe ever. Cevapcici hold a special place in my heart, as this is my Croatian families version of the dish, and I think it’s heaven on a plate! If you haven’t tried a traditional kebab recipe like this before, let this be your first introduction. I love serving mine with my homemade Serbian potato salad and homemade purple cabbage slaw for a fresh summer dinner. (Salad recipes on my blog also!)

My Families Cevapcici!

Ingredients:

  • 500g ground lamb

  • 500g lean ground beef

  • 3 tablespoons of water

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 brown onion, finely diced

  • A large bunch of parsley, finely chopped

  • 2 teaspoons ground white pepper

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 tablespoon of sweet paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika

  • 1 teaspoon of spiced paprika

  • 3 tablespoons of Panko breadcrumbs

Method:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb and beef.

  2. Add water, minced garlic, diced onion, chopped parsley, white pepper, salt, baking soda, sweet paprika, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, spiced paprika, and Panko breadcrumbs.

  3. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.

  4. Cover the bowl and let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.

  5. After refrigeration, take the mixture out and shape it into small sausage-like kebabs.

  6. Preheat a grill or BBQ to medium-high heat.

  7. Grill the cevapcici for about 5-7 minutes per side or until they are thoroughly cooked and have a nice char.

  8. Once done, remove from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.

  9. Serve the Croatian cevapcici hot with your favorite sauces, sides and enjoy the spicy, juicy, and delicious flavors!

With love,

Tara x
